Me - Jane Hallowell

Me again at Yoga & Nia for Life

I have taken several styles of yoga throughout my life.  After my first Svaroopa® Yoga class, I felt relief from 16 years of chronic neck & shoulder pain, and so, I began teacher training shortly thereafter.  I am now a CSYT (Certified Svaroopa® Yoga Teacher) for 700 hours, a certified Embodyment® Yoga Therapist, and a RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher), certified with the National Yoga Alliance.

To elaborate…seven years ago, I began my training as a Svaroopa® Yoga teacher.  I was so excited to discover something that eliminated my chronic pain after trying several other healing modalities over the years.  Since I was a born teacher, having taught piano and English when I lived in Japan, I decided to shift gears, delve into this type of yoga, and become a teacher.  I wanted to help others discover what I had.

With my students. I’m on the left.

To be a certified Svaroopa® Yoga teacher (CSYT) for 700 hours , I learned how to teach poses, including alignments, propping, and adjustments.  (CSYT certification automatically qualified me as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through the National Yoga Alliance.) I also studied yogic philosophy, anatomy, and did lots of meditation.

Specifics of my training include:

  • Svaroopa® Yoga Foundations Course
  • YTT (Yoga Teacher Training) Weeks 1 – 4
  • DTS (Develop your Teaching Skills) – four sessions, after each YTT training – where we spent hours studying every pose in detail and how to sequence them, while creating lesson plans that encompassed 12 different themes.  We submitted our lesson plans to a senior teacher, who spent more hours with us on conference calls to guide us on the most effective plan structure.
  • Embodyment® Yoga Therapy
  • Experiential Anatomy

Some of these courses were from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to do yoga all day for as many as nine days at a time.

Teacher training is just the beginning, though.  Gaining experience and maintaining certification are other chapters along the way.

Namaste, Jane
